Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. His Mom and Dad are Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams. Michael was Martin's birth name, but his mother later changed it to Martin. Martin's Father worked for the Ebenezer Baptist Church along with his grandfather, Reverend Adam Daniel Williams. Martin had an older sister and younger brother, Christine King and Alfred Daniel. Alfred Daniel also followed in the family footsteps and became a minister ("Martin Luther King Jr.",1).
MLK went to segregated schools in Georgia, he graduated from high school at the age of fifteen ( " The Nobel Peace Prize 1964",1). In 1944, King followed in the family's footsteps, and went to become a preacher at Morehouse College. Later in 1948, he entered Crozer Theological Seminary and received a degree in sociology. This made Martin feel free and that he could talk about the race issue freely (Claybourne, 10).
In 1951, King attended Boston University. This is where he met his future wife , Coretta Scott. They married in June 1953. They had four children, Yolanda Denise, Martin Luther III, Dexter Scott, and Bernice Albertine(Claybourne,11-12).
